Privacy policy

Last updated: 29 October 2026.

This policy explains what personal data MaritimeJobFinder ("we") processes when you use maritimejobfinder.com, and what rights you have.

Who is responsible

The site is run by Maritime Job Finder. Contact for all privacy questions: info@maritimejobfinder.com.

Visitors of the site

  • You can search and read vacancies and check crewing agencies without an account.
  • We do not use analytics or advertising at the moment. If we add them, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.
  • Like every website, our hosting provider (Hostinger) records technical access logs: IP address, browser, requested page and time. They are used to run the site and protect it from attacks, and are kept for a limited period. We do not store what you type into "Check a crewing agency" apart from these logs.
  • When you apply on a company's website, by email or by phone, you contact the company directly. We do not receive your messages.

Accounts

If you create an account, we store your email address, account type (seafarer or company), interface language, a hash of your password (never the password itself), and the dates of registration and last login. We send you only emails needed for the account: password reset and, if you use Gold, document reminders.

Seafarer application form

Everything in the form is optional except your name, and you decide what to fill in:

  • Basic: name, profile photo, rank and a second rank you are ready to work in, nationality, country of residence, year of birth (only the year, never the full date), English level, phone, WhatsApp and Telegram, a short text about you, the date you are available from.
  • Documents and certificates: type, issuing country and expiry date only. We never ask for document numbers or scans; please do not type them into notes.
  • Sea service: vessels, vessel type and size, main engine, rank, company and dates.
  • Education and preferences: schools, desired salary, contract, vessel types, coverall and shoe size.
  • CV in PDF, if you upload one.

Your photo is re-saved by us as a small square image; hidden data in the original file (camera, location) is removed.

Who can see your form

  • Nobody, by default. The form is private until you change that in "Privacy & sharing".
  • Verified companies, if you switch on "Show my profile to verified companies": companies that we have checked can see the form with your contacts. You can switch it off at any time. Every time a company opens your form or CV, we record it.
  • Your share link, if you create one: anyone who has the link can see the form without your phone, email or messengers; the photo only if you allow it. The link is hidden from search engines. You can switch it off or replace it with a new one at any time.
  • A company you apply to (see below).

Applying with your form

When you press "Apply with my profile" and confirm, we send your application form with your contacts and your message to the company that posted that vacancy (only companies we have checked can receive applications). You give this consent for each application separately. You can withdraw an application in "My applications" at any time; the company then no longer sees it through our site. Applications are deleted 12 months after the vacancy closes. What the company does with data it has already seen is its own responsibility as an employer.

Companies

For company accounts we store the account email and the company details given in the account; the company details and its vacancies are shown publicly on its company page after we check the company.

Information in vacancies, company pages and "Check a crewing agency"

Vacancies and company pages contain business contact details (for example an email address or phone number for applications) that the company published so that seafarers can apply. "Check a crewing agency" shows facts about companies copied from official public registries (name, licence number and status, city, website), with the source and date. We do not copy the names of representatives or personal contacts from registries. A company or a person named on a page can ask us to correct or remove the details: see the contact page.

Administrators of the site

For the people who manage the site we store a login, name, password hash and a log of their actions. To stop password guessing we count failed login attempts; IP addresses in these records are stored only as one-way hashes.

Legal basis

  • Accounts, the application form and the emails they need: to provide the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Showing your form to companies, your share link and each application: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Security, access logs, anti-abuse measures and registry facts about companies: our legitimate interest in running a safe job board (Article 6(1)(f)).

How long we keep data

Account and form data are kept until you delete your account. Deleting the account in your account page removes the account, form, photo, CV, documents and applications immediately. Applications are also deleted 12 months after the vacancy closes. One-time email links are deleted soon after they expire.

Your rights

You can download your data as a file in your account page, correct it there, or delete your account. You can also ask us for access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or object to processing, and complain to a data protection supervisory authority. Write to info@maritimejobfinder.com.

Children

The site is intended for seafarers and employers, not for children.

Changes

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
